Community information sessions announced for $100m Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program

Someva Renewables (“Someva”) and Mainstream Renewable Power (“Mainstream”), the renewable energy companies jointly awarded a permit to investigate a wind farm at Sunny Corner State Forest, are inviting locals to two upcoming community information sessions to learn more about the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program.

Eligible landowners have the opportunity to share in approximately $100 million in financial benefits through the Near Neighbour Program, which will provide annual cash payments over the estimated 32-year operational life of the proposed wind farm. Participation in the program is wholly voluntary, and landowners with dwellings located within 2.5 kilometres of a turbine are invited to participate.

Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program community drop-in sessions:

  • Wednesday 30 July – The Annexe, Portland, 4-7pm
  • Wednesday 6 August – Sunny Corner Community Hall, 4-7pm

Since launching the program earlier this month, the project team has been meeting with eligible neighbours to talk through the Near Neighbour Program and answer questions. Additional emails to eligible neighbours have been distributed this week, along with letters to residents within 2.5km of a proposed turbine.

Jamie Chivers, Managing Director of Someva Renewables, said: “The Near Neighbour Program is about ensuring that people who live closest to the proposed wind farm share directly in the benefits. We’ve had some fantastic conversations with neighbours over the past few weeks and already more than 60 have expressed their interest. If you think you might be eligible and you haven’t connected with the team yet, please come along, have a chat and find out more. Even if you’re not eligible yourself, please share the details with friends or neighbours who might be. We want as many eligible neighbours as possible to benefit.

“We’ve engaged deeply with the community on the design of the Near Neighbour Program through surveys and face to face conversations. The overwhelming response was that neighbours prefer to receive financial benefits from the wind farm, so we have designed this Program with this in mind.”

Greg Politakis, Country Manager from Mainstream Renewable Power said: “We’ve listened closely to local feedback in designing this program which offers industry-leading financial benefits to residents, with payments tailored to how close you live to a proposed turbine and what you can see from your property. For example, someone living about two kilometres from a turbine with a moderate view of the wind farm could receive around $9,500 a year if the wind farm is constructed. This is an opportunity to bring long-term passive income into local households, and we encourage everyone who may be eligible to explore how it could work for them.”

To register your interest, or to find out if you are eligible to participate in the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program email community@someva.com.au or visit sunnycornerwindfarm.com.au/neighbour/

To participate in the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program eligible neighbours need to register their interest and sign a Neighbour Benefits Sharing Deed by 5pm on 31 October 2025.

About the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program

The Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program is open to eligible residents in Sunny Corner, Dark Corner, Yetholme, Meadow Flat and rural properties within 2.5km of a proposed turbine, as outlined in the Scoping Report Preliminary layout. Payments are scaled based on proximity and visual amenity and will continue throughout the wind farm’s 32-year operational life. Eligible neighbours can participate in the program without signing a non-disclosure agreement or being subject to any confidentiality requirements. Participation does not restrict future property development (such as building a shed or other structures) or the ability to sell the property.
