Sunny Corner Wind Farm announces extension to Near Neighbour Program

Someva Renewables and Mainstream Renewable Power, the renewable energy companies jointly awarded a permit to investigate a wind farm at Sunny Corner State Forest, have today announced an extension to the proposed wind farm’s Near Neighbour Program.

The Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program has been extended until 28 February 2026, giving eligible rural residents more time to consider and take part in the Program.

The voluntary, industry-leading Program has been developed through in-depth community consultation and is designed to share financial benefits with eligible residents living within 2.5km of a proposed turbine, with up to $100 million available in cash payments to be shared over the project’s projected 32-year life. For example, someone living about 2km from a turbine with a moderate view of the wind farm could receive around $9,500 a year if the wind farm is constructed.

Jamie Chivers, Managing Director of Someva Renewables, said the project is focused on ensuring the local community shares in the benefits it could create.

“From the outset, our goal has been to design a project that delivers long-term prosperity for the region. By extending the Near Neighbour Program, we are giving eligible residents more time to consider how they can benefit, ask questions and have meaningful conversations with us. This is all about making sure the benefits of this proposed project are shared as widely as possible with the local community,” Mr Chivers said.

Greg Politakis, Country Manager for Mainstream Renewable Power, said the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program reflects local feedback.

“We’ve heard clearly that locals want meaningful ways to share in the financial benefits of the proposed project. We also understand that many residents want more time to explore what the Near Neighbour Program means for them, and extending the timeframe for participation is a way to support these discussions. By continuing to listen to the community, taking the time to have deeper conversations and sharing information on the potential benefits, we are seeking to co-design a wind farm that will bring decades of economic growth and prosperity to the region if approved,” Mr Politakis said.
