Twenty-five work packages released including call for businesses specialising in earthworks, concreting, fencing, construction, electrical services, cleaning, catering and transport services
Someva Renewables is calling on local businesses in the Snowy-Monaro region to submit expressions of interest to participate in the development of the proposed Coonerang Wind Farm.
The NSW-based, 100% Australian-owned renewable energy company has released 25 work packages for the proposed wind farm via the online Industry Capability Network (ICN) Gateway portal.
Someva Renewables is seeking expressions of interest from businesses that specialise in a range of services including earthworks, concreting, fencing, construction, electrical services, logistics and steelworks. Opportunities are also available for crane operators, shuttle bus companies, cleaners, catering companies and temporary accommodation site providers.
The proposed Coonerang Wind Farm is located approximately 15 kilometres south of Cooma and if approved, will feature up to 33 wind turbines supported by advanced battery storage technology. The wind farm is expected to generate approximately 264 megawatts (MW) of clean, affordable and reliable energy – enough to power 135,000 Australian homes.
If approved, construction on the Coonerang Wind Farm is expected to commence in 2028. Local businesses are encouraged to register their interest before the December 2026 deadline.
Someva Renewables Development Director Tim Mead said: “As an 100% Australian-owned business, Someva Renewables is committed to working with as many local suppliers and businesses as possible on the development of the Coonerang Wind Farm.”
“If approved, the Coonerang Wind Farm will deliver a significant economic boost to the region. The wind farm is expected to generate at least 127 new jobs throughout construction and 17 full-time roles throughout operation. It is also expected to deliver significant flow-on economic activity that could benefit local suppliers, contractors, accommodation and hospitality providers,” said Mr Mead.
“While construction is not scheduled to begin until 2028, the expression of interest process is an important chance for us to gauge the level of interest from local businesses in participating in the development of this important project,” said Mr Mead.
“The proposed Coonerang Wind Farm is entering an important stage of the approval process. We have received a positive response to the launch of the project’s Neighbour Benefits Program, while the proposed wind farm’s Environmental Impact Statement is expected to be made public in the months ahead.”
“Today’s call for local businesses to participate in the development of Coonerang Wind Farm is another important milestone and we’re looking forward to understanding the level of interest from local businesses. This in turn will help us develop a local procurement strategy aimed at supporting as many local jobs and businesses as possible should the proposed Coonerang Wind Farm be approved,” said Mr Mead.
